If you’ve been paying attention to business technology, you most likely know that VoIP can be a great help to your company.  With VoIP’s array of features, and cost saving technology, you are most likely ready to take the business VoIP plunge.  While you may be ready to get a VoIP system, there are still some concerns to pay attention to.  The voice quality issues of the past have been recently taken care of now that broadband internet has become more common.  These days the most prevalent concerns with VoIP surrounds network security.
Hackers are out there not only to manipulate internet users, but VoIP system users as well. People are still using the internet, despite the threat of hackers.  Likewise, people should still freely use VoIP systems despite the threat of hackers.
By taking just a few easy precautions you can prevent someone from taking advantage of you and your VoIP business system.  In this article, you will find out how unwelcome visitors could hack your VoIP system, as well as how to keep your line safe.
1) Remember that just because your VoIP is plugged into an already secure network does not necessarily mean you VoIP line is secure. There is a little more to the process.
Remember that having both voice and data on a sole network makes ensuring security a little more complicated.  The process is somewhat complex, but taking the time to make sure your VoIP line is completely secure is a worthwhile use of your time.
Why should you secure your VoIP system?
Each VoIP account has a dedicated IP address. It is easy for spammers to send their messages (voicemails) to thousands of IP addresses. With this type of spamming, your voicemail will be overrun, and your business could suffer.  Some of these spams also contain viruses and/or spyware in their message. If your VoIP system is not secured, you could also run into phishing. Phishing is the illegal process of trying to acquire private information such as usernames, passwords, credit card information, etc., by disguising as a trusted party.
Protecting your VoIP line from unwanted attacks:
-If for any reason you are suspicious about a company that calls you on VoIP, you might want to call the company yourself.  Many phishing attacks are done via automated system, so be sure you get a human talking on the phone.
-Find out if your VoIP system has a call manager software that can detect as well as filter suspicious phone calls.  Talk to your business VoIP provider about anti-phishing and hacker protection.
